04/12/2010 Smart Meals® And Recipe for Success Foundation To Help Houstonians Gain Health
HOUSTON, Tx – Whoever coined the phrase, “Everything is bigger in Texas”, was on to something. For four years out of the last decade, Houston has been named “The Fattest City In America” by Men’s Fitness Magazine, which has been conducting the survey since 1998. To the staff at Smart Meals®, who have been serving up fresh, healthy, prepackaged meals to Houstonians for over 15 years, this fact is simply unacceptable. And on the heels of their recent partnership with Recipe for Success Foundation (RfS), they are launching an initiative to help the city gain health through community outreach and education. Together with Monica Pope, Chair of RfS’s Chef’s Advisory Board and owner of Houston’s t’afia and Beaver’s restaurants, Smart Meals® is working to raise awareness about RfS’s mission. At the national level, Pope is currently competing on behalf of RfS against 21 other world-renowned chefs on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters (Wednesdays at 10/9c on BRAVO), for a grand prize of $100,000 for the charity of their choice. To support Monica’s efforts here at home, Smart Meals® will donate 10 percent to RfS of all corporate and individual orders delivered or purchased from their Fountainview location on Thursday, April 15, 2010. (Orders must be placed by Tuesday, April 13 at 5 p.m. for Thursday delivery).
“Smart Meals® has always upheld the highest standards of social responsibility, and worked to promote sustainable health and wellness over the hype of fad diets,” said owner Sharon Reitman. “I could not be more excited about our partnership with Recipe for Success Foundation, because they represent an extension of our vision and a means of reaching even more people in the community.” To further buoy this initiative, Smart Meals® is challenging other local businesses to respond in kind. Whether it is a donation of services, products or proceeds, every contribution help.” “In the end it doesn’t matter how Monica places on Top Chef Masters,” Reitman said. “If we generate excitement about Recipe for Success Foundation locally and raise awareness on the national stage, everybody win.”
